Dogs and Kitchens
A well designed kitchen works for the whole family – including their pets. There are of lots of things you can do in your kitchen to make it easier to look after your dog and make the kitchen their favourite room too.
- Sleeping – leaving a corner free for a dog bed is perfect if you have the room.If not, you can consider creating a cozy nook by leaving the door off one of the cupboards or even extending on island worktop, supported by columns for a perfect place for your dog to snooze.
- Eating & Drinking – If you want bowls out of sight how about a low drawer that pulls out with the food and water bowls slotting into perfectly sized holes? For ultimate convenience imagine a nook at the end of an island with bowls fitted neatly into the base and a pot filler tap just above! If your dog is tempted by just baked cupcakes as they are cooling on the worktop then perhaps an extra deep worktop or carrying a wall cabinet down to the worktop to create the perfect place to store food out of paw reach will solve the problem.
- Food storage – Small tins, packets of raw food, or great big bags of dried food?Whichever it is it needs to be stored but close at hand at feeding time. A great idea is using an integrated pull out bin to hold a large amount of dried food which can be scooped out. If you have room a small freezer is perfect for raw food. And, having a dedicated cupboard for dog food makes serving up simple.
- Walking – If you are lucky enough to have a door from outside directly into the kitchen or utility room with an easy to wash floor its ideal. You’ll want to have a cupboard near the door to store all the things for a walk – bags, lead, toy etc. If it’s a muddy walk then having an outside tap with warm water can save on indoor cleaning but you’ll need something to dry with to hand. One of our favourite things is a dog washing station in a utility room – think a large shallow sink sitting on the floor with a shower head.
